Obituary

Monroe C. Haertner of Seguin, died June 28, 2015 at the age of 74. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Andy Smith officiating. Interment with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion H U Wood Post #245 will follow in the Christ Lutheran Church of Elm Creek Cemetery. He was born on July 23, 1940 in Barbarossa. He is preceded in death by wives, Dixie Retzloff and Linda Sommer, brother, Melvin Haertner and parents Laura and Herman Haertner. He is survived by brothers, Raymond (Judy) and Johnnie (Gloria) Haertner, sisters, Mildred Turner (Hilton), Clara Linebarger and Lydia Woehler; daughters, Martha Haertner (fiancé Charlie) and Carolyn Herrera (Jesus Herrera) and son, Henry Haertner; grandchildren, Kasey Haertner (fiancé David Fladung) and Jeffery Walker and great children Nickallis and Miley Fladung. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was best known as a state inspector at the Seguin Radiator Shop located at the corner of North Austin and West Kingsbury Streets. There he became friends with many customers and served families throughout the generations. Prior to that, he worked at the Gulf Station at what is now Red Carpet Auto Sales. Perhaps the legacy he leaves behind was the impact of his big and generous heart. He always put his family first and was an even more special "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. And "Pops" to all of his "children" he picked up over the years. During his final years, Monroe spent his time at Nesbit Living and Recovery Center, again making friends with those who he came in contact with. He could always be found piecing together a puzzle and sharing whatever he had with other residents. His generosity and kind heartedness followed him wherever his life led him. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
