Monroe Henry Schubert, age 83 of Kingsbury, passed from his earthly life on September 14, 2011. Monroe was born to Gustav and Alma Karrass Schubert on April 1, 1928 in the Galle community on the family farm where he also grew up. He attended school in Galle and Staples. As a youth, he was involved in 4-H where his main projects were raising beef cattle and hogs for show. He and his brother Nolan attended many stock shows in the state. Working on the farm and his 4-H activities gave Monroe a foundation in agriculture with a great work ethic which he later passed on to his children and grandchildren. On September 30, 1950 Monroe was married to Verlin Boecker at Cross Church in Seguin. Monroe and Verlin were long time members of Emanuel's Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, Men's Bible Class and the ushering team. Monroe served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Polk, La. Upon returning to the Staples community, Monroe and Verlin began farming and ranching, which was his life long passion. He served as Precinct 2 Guadalupe County Commissioner beginning in 1973 until 1994. Monroe also served on various committees to promote and support local agriculture such as: The Guadalupe County 4-H Adult Leaders, The Guadalupe County Youth Livestock Show Board of Directors, The Luling Foundation Board of Directors and the ASCS County committee. Monroe was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Otto and Alma Boecker, and his brothers Raymond and wife Lucille, Edgar and wife Alice, Percy and wife Willie Mae, Nolan and wife Alice and his sister Norma and husband Roy Coers and brother-in-law, Otwin Boecker and wife Margaret. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Verlin, his daughters Marlu and husband Roger Bading of Geronimo, Vicki and husband Alton Homann of Lockhart, and son Monte and wife Debbra of Kingsbury and brother-in-law, Allen Boecker and wife Lucille of Marble Falls. Also surviving are his grandchildren Jason Homann and wife Erin of new Braunfels, Justin Homann and wife Tasha of Spring, Ryan Bading and wife Sara of Corpus Christi, Kyle Bading and wife Megan of Geronimo, Stephany Schubert, Justin Trapp, Wesley Trapp, Dusty Schubert and Kyndel Schubert all of Kingsbury. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren Atlee and Emery Homann and Reese and Brynn Bading and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends and neighbors. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 2 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Emanuel's Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. with Willie Spreen officiating. Interment will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. His grandsons will honor him by serving as pallbearers.
