Nancy K. Christy

Our dear Nancy went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in Kerrville, Texas, following a lengthy illness.

Nancy Cheryl Knott Christy was born on July 24, 1945, to Ruth and Earl Knott in Houston, Texas. Her father’s career in the oil industry resulted in frequent moves through Texas and Louisiana. Nancy completed her high school education at W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, before receiving her bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology at the University of Texas at Austin. Her love of children led her to Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, where she earned a master’s degree in Speech Therapy and Audiology.

After one year as a first-grade teacher in Aldine, Texas, Nancy moved to Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, where she worked for the University’s Community Outreach Program for children as a Speech Therapist. It was there she met her husband-to-be, Leonard Christy. His career as an officer in the U.S. Navy led them to New Orleans, La., Chesapeake, VA, and Gaeta, Italy. After his retirement, the family returned to Texas for a short time before moving to Pittsburg, PA, and on to Michigan, where they would remain for over thirty years.

Her baby boy, Earl, the Light of her Life, arrived in 1974. Their family shared many adventures during their travels. Earl displayed an early interest in music and a special gift. His love of the lute led him to the Netherlands for years of study and enrichment. He and his wife, Ilil, recently relocated to Italy, where they both pursue their love for music.

Nancy’s years in Michigan brought her to Hillside Learning Center, where she worked as a speech therapist with Special Needs children. She was gifted in so many areas and implemented her creativity, compassion, and team spirit in all that she did. The memories of her fellow teachers and her cherished students were always with her.

Retirement and a move back to her native Texas roots came in 2013, when she purchased a home in Live Oak, TX. Nancy’s lifelong love of creative writing became a passion as she joined a writers’ group at her church. Hours were spent writing the book she dreamed of writing. She enjoyed creating characters based on the lives and attributes of her early and current family members. Nancy made lasting friendships with her good friends in her Sunday School class and fellow writers in the writers’ group.

April 2025 brought a move to Kerrville, TX, to be closer to family. Nancy enjoyed family celebrations and treasured her time with great-nieces and nephews. Her life was full.

Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Christy, and her parents, Ruth and Earl Knott. She is survived by her son, Earl Willis Christy and wife Ilil; sister and brother-in-law, Curtis and Kathy Enke; niece, Allison Enke Sloma and husband Andrew Sloma; nephew, Mark Enke and wife, Holly; and five great-nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held in Kerrville, TX, on Sunday, September 6, 2026, where friends and family gathered to share their memories of Nancy.

The family is grateful to the caregivers of Peterson Hospice, who provided loving comfort and excellent care to Nancy during her illness.
