Nieves Chavez Herrera, of Seguin, passed away with her family by her side, days before her 86th birthday on November 5, 2017. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Deacon Nick Carrillo officiating followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Dennis Darilek officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Nieves was born in Seguin Texas to Anselmo and Refugia (Saenz) Chavez. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Pedro Herrera, her parents, her daughter-in-law, Mary Herrera, a sister and several brothers. Survivors include her children, Alicia H. Nieto and husband Sam, Tony Herrera and friend Hope Horacefield, Ramon Herrera and wife Carol, and Sylvia Larick and husband Steve; grandchildren, Joshua Nieto and wife Patricia, Aimee Nieto Anderson and husband Ben, Sarah Tisdale, Bianca Herrera and husband Steve, Ayla Larick and Tracy Lynn Mayfield; 8 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Paula Cope; brothers, Epimenio Chavez and wife Eva, Santiago Chavez and wife Concha, Domingo Chavez and Henry Chavez and wife Olivia; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Herrera, Jesse Licona, Gilbert De La Garza, Jr., Raul Sassenhagen, George Licona, Jody Herrera and John Herrera. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Remarkable Healthcare, her special angel, Tiffany Knapp who was her personal caregiver and the Eucharistic Staff of both St. James Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
