Obituary

Lackorn

Nina Grusendorf Lackorn passed away June 19, 2016. She was born November 26, 1924, in Meridian, Texas to Arthur and Meda Grusendorf.

Her early years were spent wandering with her family in search of teaching positions for her father who taught school while he furthered his education in small towns of Texas like Canyon and Brenham. They eventually settled in Austin, and then on to San Marcos where Arthur taught at Southwest Texas Teachers State College, now known as Texas State University.

Their roots took hold in San Marcos and she and brother Archie graduated high school. Upon graduation she took a "war" job in Cleveland, Ohio, as an accountant. Nina returned to San Marcos a year later where she met and married a dashing young bomber pilot stationed at Camp Gary named Walt Lackorn. They spent their first year stationed in several bases in Texas and California.

Seguin became their home in 1946, and her family became her life. She had three children, Terry, Kristine, and Denver—the luckiest children in the world. Grandchildren have fond memories of Easter egg hunts at her house on Geronimo Creek and of traveling with her and Walt in the motorhome to various state and national parks around the country. She was a great wife and mother, and teacher of life. She was loved by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Archie, husband Walt, son Terry, granddaughter Helen Frost and sister-in-law Matalee Grusendorf, as well as life-long friend Irene Smith. She is survived by daughter Kristine Frost, son-in-law Jim Frost; son Denver and his wife, Francie; daughter-in-law Joan Billnitzer Lackorn; and niece Martha Grusendorf Hendricks and family. Grandchildren include Pauline Williamson, Bart Lackorn (and wife, Teresa Lewis), Emily Frost (and husband Craig Kern), Brandon Lackorn (and wife Susie Robbins Lackorn), and Russell Frost. Great-grandchildren include Madeline McMann, Bella and Hannah Lackorn, and James Kern.

At Nina's request, a private family service will be held for her at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sickle Cell Cure Foundation (http://sicklecellcurefoundation.org/) would be appreciated greatly.
