Buchanan

SGM Noel Gene Buchanan, USA(Ret.), was born on December 10, 1943, to Blanche and Ernest Buchanan. He entered into rest on November 8, 2021 after injuries sustained in a car accident. After attending Tarleton State University for a year, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to Ft. Polk, Louisiana, for basic training. He trained as a nuclear weapons technician at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he met his beautiful wife. They courted by mail for two years, while he was stationed away from her, before they married in 1965. He trained as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician at the Naval Ordnance Depot in Indianhead, Maryland.
Noel had a 30 year career in the Army, from 1963 until 1993, and served on many posts in the US and Japan, Korea and Vietnam. While at Ft. George G. Meade, Maryland, he served seven years on the White House detail.
Noel was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Martha Paulette Buchanan. He is survived by his son Fredrick C. Buchanan and wife Pamela, daughter Cynthia A. (Buchanan) Buch, and husband Brian; grandsons: Jonah, Jesse and Jaren Buch, granddaughters Amanda (Buchanan) Harris and Mikayla (Hinson) Phinney, and great-granddaughters Allison and Caitlyn Harris; siblings: Darlene Goode, James Buchanan and Cassandra Myers.
Noel loved Jesus and given the opportunity, he would tell anyone about the blessings that they can have if they come to know Him. He participated in prison ministry for many years. His later years were spent supporting missionaries and building churches in Africa and other countries. As such, it is Noel's wishes that in lieu of flowers, money be donated in his memory to Marion Baptist Church, to be directed toward his beloved missionaries.
