Obituary

Paul James Smith, 73, of Seguin joined his Lord on September 18, 2016. Paul was born in Rosenberg, Texas, on November 18, 1942, to Elmer Smith and Irene Reaves Smith. Memorial services will be held on October 1, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Hillcrest Church, Pastor Mike Rodriguez officiating. Private family interment will be held at a later date.
The youngest of ten children, Paul was a devoted family man who adored his wife, his children, and his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He demonstrated the love of Jesus Christ and encouraged his family to know and experience the Lord through their own Christian faith.
Paul was a faithful and active member of Hillcrest Church in Seguin, and enjoyed playing trombone and later saxophone during worship. An avid musician, he spent many years in the school band, the barbershop chorus and three quartets, and the Texas National Guard Army band. He also enjoyed being outside and working with his hands—hunting, golfing, building and flying radio controlled airplanes, and restoring Cushman scooters and classic cars.
Having grown up in Seguin and worked fifty-plus years at Seguin Fabricators, Paul was known by many, and just as many loved him. He was respected for his kindness, humor, wisdom, and character.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings Dalton Smith (Marlin), Leroy Smith (Brazoria), Jean Brumbelow Eiland (Belton), Helen Broadway (Brazoria), and Leona Hoot (Brazoria). He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sandra; by his son Rod Smith and wife Pamela (New Braunfels); by his daughter Shannon Morgan and husband Aaron (Hungary); by his grandchildren Alex Smith, Allison Smith, Connor Morgan, Emma Smith, and Asher Morgan; and by numerous nephews and nieces. Paul's surviving siblings (all of Seguin) are sister Dorothy Reneau and husband J.W. "Buddy," sister Geraldine Kirkland and husband Glen, brother Burl Smith and wife Delores, and brother Marvin Smith and wife Ruth.
Paul's family grieves his loss. But even though they love and miss him dearly, they hold to this hope: that they will one day be reunited with him in heaven.
