Obituary

Ray Carter Busby of Seguin, Texas was born in Tolar, Texas, June 13, 1934 and passed from this life on September 23, 2025. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. It is doubtful that anyone that knew Ray could say a bad word about him. He was liked by everyone he met.

Ray, his parents-Evan and Anna, two sisters-Yvonne and Jean, and a brother-Max moved to Amarillo, Texas when he was a child. He lived in Amarillo until 1968. During that time, Ray joined the US Navy and served on the USS Buck (DD-761) from April 1952 to May 1955 as Radarman Petty Officer Third Class. After leaving the Navy, he met and married Shirley Scarber in 1958.

Ray and his family moved to San Antonio in 1968, then Harlingen in 1976, then back to Amarillo in 1985. He worked for Western Electric (AT&T) for 35 years as an Area Supervisor. After retiring he and Shirley moved to Marble Falls where he played golf nearly every day. He was the Golf Association President for the Meadow Lakes Country Club.

When he was not golfing, he took wood carving classes. That was his passion for sure. In 2000 he and Shirley moved to Seguin, Texas to be with their daughter. He built a shop for woodworking and created beautiful things that he shared with all his family. He went to wood carving festivals and ended up making carving knives and selling them to wood carvers throughout the United States.

He is survived by his daughter Shanna Wolf and her husband Frank Wolf of Seguin, Texas, step grandchildren David Wolf and Kristye Boelling and three step great granddaughters. He is also survived by 2 nephews Gary Earhart of Irving, Texas and Dean Busby; three nieces Teri Roller and Debbie Kite of Amarillo, Texas and Debbie Mitchell of Lubbock, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in 2014 and his stepson Richard (Rick) Glover.

Private services will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Elm Creek Community Cemetery Association, 5200 Mesquite Pass, Seguin, Texas, 78155.
