Obituary

Raymond Lawrence Rohlf, age 80 of Seguin, was called to be with the Lord on June 8, 2023 while surrounded by his family. Raymond was born in their family's country home on FM 467 on July 27, 1942 to Anita Marie (Mergele) and Lawrence Willie Rohlf. At age 5, his parents bought a farm on acreage where they raised cows, pigs, and chickens, and farmed the land. As a young boy, Raymond loved to ride his horse bareback. He attended Elm Creek School and Seguin High School. He left school after 9th grade and began his career as a textile weaver at Mission Valley Mills (West Point Pepperell) in New Braunfels in 1959. At the end of his 42 year career in textile mills, he had become Senior Maintenance Technician. Raymond could troubleshoot and repair any problem on textile machines and virtually any other motor or machine.

After pursuing the pretty blonde who caught his eye, and several attempts at asking her out, he finally persuaded her to go out on a date. On January 20, 1962, he and Lena Cowey were married at Emanuel's Lutheran Church in Seguin. He and Lena raised their two children in a home they built on the family farm. He worked hard to provide for them. He enjoyed spending free time putting out trot lines with both his father and his son, Tray. He was an avid hunter for many years. He especially enjoyed hunting with his son-in-law, brother, cousins, and grandsons.

His greatest joy came with the birth of his grandchildren and great-grandson.  He loved them beyond measure and was always willing and happy to do anything they asked of him.

Throughout the years, he and Lena enjoyed traveling the US on road trips with family and friends. After retirement, he spent his time working cattle and checking fence lines on his 4-wheeler. He enjoyed days at the auction barn and visiting with friends either on the phone or in person. He and Lena also enjoyed Friday nights going out to dinner and playing card or dice games with family or friends.

When he was faced with his toughest challenge of Pancreatic cancer, he fought hard. Even though treatments were hard on his body, he remained strong. When his body became weaker, his main concern remained his loving wife, Lena. Until the very end, he was strong and fought for her and the rest of his family.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, and his in-laws Hilmar and Evelyn Cowey.

Survivors include Lena, his loving wife of 61 years, daughter, Tammy Bargfrede and husband Rodney; son, Tray Rohlf and wife Christy; grandchildren, Caleb Bargfrede and wife Cady, Cameron Bargfrede and girlfriend Brittany Largent, and Emmy Rohlf; great-grandson, Dakota Bargfrede; brothers, Larry Rohlf and wife Dolores, and Dennis Rohlf; brother-in-law, Hilmar Cowey Jr. and wife Leola; sister-in-law, Connie Reimer and husband Jimmy; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 10:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church of Elm Creek with the Rev. Toby Burk officiating and Chaplain Emanuel Carpenter assisting.  Interment will follow in the Christ Lutheran Church of Elm Creek Cemetery.  Caleb Bargfrede, Cameron Bargfrede, Shawn Ronshausen, Jon Crump, Frank Fischer, Larry Luksik, and Larry Thompson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Hilmar Cowey Jr., Jimmy Atzger, Jesse Atzger, Hilmar Louis Mondin, Elton Strey, Jr., and Charles Mergele.
