Raymond K. Windmiller, age 90 of Seguin, Texas, passed away on May 15, 2016. Raymond was born on March 22, 1926 to Jacob and Barbara (Smith) Windmiller in Pittsfield, Illinois. While attending school, he helped on the farms until graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1944. He joined the Navy during World War II and served aboard a U.S. Destroyer until he was discharged in July 1946. Upon returning from the service, he got a job in his home town. He then met Barbara Bergman and they were married in 1949. To them were born four children: son, Raymond Windmiller (wife Rhonda) of Liverpool, Il., daughter, Janet Brink (husband Ted) of Omaha, Ne., daughter, Nancy Smith Carr (husband Raymond) of San Antonio, Tx., and son, Thomas Windmiller of Staples, Tx. He had eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include his sister, Kathy Daykin (husband Phil) of Springfield, Il., brother-in-law, Howard Richards of Pittsfield, Il., brother-in-law, Phil Bergman (wife Sharon) of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara, son-in-law, Howard Smith, grandson Matthew Brink, his sister Vivian Stroheker and husband, Stewart Stroheker, brother Dale Windmiller and his wife Edna Windmiller, sister Zelma Richards, and two nieces, Ann Stroheker Lyman and Lynn Stroheker. He worked in electronics starting in his hometown at a radio and TV repair shop, then Sylvania Electronics in Burlington, Ia. He later worked 20 years at Motorola Inc. in Quincy, Il. and 10 years at Motorola Inc. in Seguin, Tx. Before retirement, he owned and operated a car wash in Seguin until his health failed and he had to sell and take his final retirement. Raymond was a member of the Methodist church for 76 years, working on several committees and served as chairman of the building crusade in 1965-66. He was also a member of the VFW, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce as well as the American Legion H. U. Wood Post #245, and was an active member of the World War II Veterans' Seguin Honor Flight breakfast group. He was a 25 year member of the American Society for Quality Control and was the San Antonio section chairman in 1976-77. He liked to help people and volunteered on many occasions, including serving as a volunteer at Guadalupe Regional Hospital in Seguin until the time of his death. As a young family, they liked to travel, seeing most of the states. Later Ray and his wife traveled the U.S. and some foreign countries, spending the summer in the mountains and various other locations. He loved his family and friends and liked to visit them often. He was a sports fan and attended pro games when possible. His hobbies were playing golf, fishing, and building and repairing things for his neighbors. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. A coffee/reception will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday May 18, 2016 at Hierholzer Hall at First United Methodist Church of Seguin followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Smith and Rev. Ron Welborn officiating. Additional visitation, graveside services and interment with military honors will be held late in the week in Pittsfield Il., under the direction of Niebur Funeral Home.
