Richard (Dick) Hand, age 76 of Seguin and formerly of Augusta and El Dorado, Kansas, passed away on December 18, 2007 after bravely fighting acute leukemia for over a year. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 21, 2007 at Tres Hewell Mortuary at 6 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery. Dick was born to C.J. and Mary Hand in Henryetta, Oklahoma on May 1, 1931. He attended schools in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, graduating in 1949. Dick was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War. Before retirement, he was the owner of Texas Battery Associates, an automotive battery distributorship. Dick enjoyed many rounds of golf with his friends at Chaparral Country Club, loved to travel with family and friends, and took great pride in all things Irish. Dick is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers James and Patrick, and his father-in-law Alvin Manka. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley of Seguin, and their daughter Kathy Pinsky and her husband Brian of Austin, Texas. He was "Papa" to his grandchildren Emma Rose Pinsky and Thomas Pinsky, of Austin, Texas. Survivors also include his brother Tom Hand and wife Fata of El Dorado, Kansas, his mother-in-law Frances Manka, also of El Dorado, and numerous nieces and nephews.
