Obituary

Robert (Bob) Harrison Haugen, age 87, of Seguin, Texas passed away on September 24, 2011. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Mittelstadt officiating and military honors under the auspices of the American Legion H. U. Wood Post 245. A reception will follow in the Grace Lutheran Church Parish Hall. Graveside services and interment will be at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Clifton, Texas on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Deaconess Pat Gorton officiating. Bob was born on January 3, 1924 in Black Earth, Wisconsin to Halsten Mickelson Haugen and Dagney Elizabeth Sanden Haugen. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corp and later in the United States Air Force Reserves. He was a graduate of Texas Lutheran University. Bob taught and coached at Ingleside for ten years and later taught at Elm Creek School. He worked for the Development Department for Texas Lutheran University for twenty-seven years. He was an avid supporter of the university and especially its athletic programs. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for more than 50 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Esther Murrell. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Florence Haugen; son, Robert Haugen and wife Leslie; daughter, Marie Hill and husband Harvey; grandchildren, Christine, Kevin and Mark Haugen, Nick Borrelli and wife Beth, John Borrelli and wife Katherine, and Michael, Elizabeth, and Caroline Hill; great-granddaughter, Isabella Borrelli; sisters, Dorothea Borchers and Thora George and husband Phil; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Donsbach, Ruby Johnson, Thelma Koehler, and Sharron Vogel and husband Virgil; brothers-in-law, Francis Murrell and Leroy Matthys and wife Barbara; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 935 E. Mountain, Seguin, Texas, 78155 or to Texas Lutheran University, Development Office, 1000 West Court Street, Seguin, Texas, 78155-9989.
