Wrapped in the peaceful, loving arms of his savior, Robert Lee "Sonny" Schievelbein, passed away on July 2, 2016 at the age of 90. He was born on February 16, 1926. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Jacquetta Arlene; his parents, Edgar and Louise; and two of his sisters, Dorothy and her husband Buck Wegren and Irene and her husband Ken Shunk; and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Linsey.
His survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bill Davis; grandson, Spencer Lance Davis; his brother and his wife Edgar "Junie" and Anna Marie Schievelbein; his sister, Ruby Linsey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was forced to quit school in the ninth grade to help support the family. He enlisted in the Army when he was old enough and proudly served during World War II in Germany, France, and England as part of the 69th division, 3rd platoon, 273rd infantry regiment company L. When he returned home after the war, he continued to work at the local flour mill with his dad for a while, married, then began trying his hand at other work. He worked for Farmers' Feed and Supply, sold insurance, and then found the career that he loved, delivering Butter Krust Bread to the local community for 35 years. He also became a small business owner in partnership with his son-in-law owning several car washes and rental properties. He retired from the bread business at 62 and enjoyed a fruitful retirement, especially enjoying his gambling trips to Las Vegas and Coushatta. He loved the camaraderie he had with his relatives and friends on hunting trips to South Texas and the Hill Country, bowling (both 9 and 10 pin), and spending time with pets.
He was known for his smiling face and friendly demeanor and his sweet, gentle, loving nature. The Family would like to thank Joann, Megan, Ollie, Zach, Jamie, and all the caregivers at DaVita Dialysis Center for the loving and professional care he received. Dr. Banks for her's and Patti Anderson, who truly was his Visiting Angel.
Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Jeremy Roy officiating and under the auspices of the American Legion H U Wood Post 245. Memorial contributions may be made to the Guadalupe County Humane Society, P. O.
