Robert Lee Markgraf, Sr., age 85 of Seguin, passed away on February 12, 2016. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Mr. Willie Spreen officiating. Interment will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Robert was born on January 09, 1931 in Guadalupe County to Dan and Elsie (Deicke) Markgraf. Robert is remembered as the beloved custodian of Mary B. Erskine Elementary, a position he held for 38 years, after which he went to work with his wife Mae at Eden Cross apartments until their retirement 11 years later. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion, H.U. Wood Post 245 as well as the Sons of Hermann Lodge #37. Robert was also an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt deer, turkey, and dove. On the off seasons, he could be found at the coast fishing and running trot lines. He was a man who truly loved life and lived it well. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mae; sons Robert Lee Markgraf, Jr. and wife Suzanne, Charles Markgraf and wife Holly; grandchildren Matthew Markgraf, Melissa Wells and husband Jon; great-grandson Liam Wells; several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Damerau, James Damerau, Matthew Markgraf, Jon Wells, Danny Lee Markgraf, and Mike Haug. Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel's Lutheran Church, 206 N.
