Roger Dale Prejean, 74, of Texas, passed peacefully away at home on Thursday, September 25th, 2026.
Roger was a private man. What most people knew of his history was either second hand information, or from an odd rare story Roger would share. He was born in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was an electrical engineer, a self published creole cookbook author, a sprinklers man, and a hard worker in general. It is because of him that I, his stepson, learned the difference between a spade and a shovel, and how to make a mean gumbo among many things.
One mysterious piece of Rogers work history is that he worked for NASA at some point, but he never elaborated. It was as if he was sworn to governmental secrecy. Knowing Roger though, it was far more likely that he did not feel the
need to elaborate; he had shared enough. He was also a quiet man. Roger would observe, and he would think. The only exceptions of course being if Roger needed to explain something to you or lecture on a topic. Very quickly you would
realize the ability to break the silence quite easily for lengths at a time was always there, he just chose not to.
Even so, Roger was not ostentatious. Rather, he put his focus on the simpler comforts of life. Like sitting in a chair, dressed in his uniform of cotton shorts and t-shirt, watching horse races with an open can of Vienna sausages beside him. Euphoric to Roger, a little dry to the rest of us. Who could blame him though? He went and hitched himself up with a fiery talkative Louisiana redhead who had four equally extroverted sons.
Roger deeply loved his wife, Cherie Littleton. He fell in love with her from the day he met her. Truly, she was the exact opposite of him in oh so many ways, but somehow that made him even more smitten. For years Roger would be nearby like a lost puppy, until one day he was allowed to come home to her for good. He never left. And even in Roger’s final days, he made sure she was nearby.
As for her four children, what was true was that Roger loved our mom, loved us, and took care of us as if we were his own. He was stern, liked to lecture, cooked better than mom (especially loved cooking creole Cajun food), and never ever layed a finger on us. Though we were not in his whole life, Roger Prejean had been there in ours.
Roger is survived by his wife, Cherie Littleton, and her four sons; Ben Leo and wife Aniko of New York, Nick Leo of Colorado, Zane Leo of New York, and Jake Leo of Texas, and many friends. Rest easy Roger, you were loved.
