Obituary

Roland B. Merz, age 86 of Kingsbury, passed away on July 14, 2018. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Seguin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Brice Mandaville officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Kingsbury Cemetery. Roland was born on September 9, 1931 in San Marcos, Texas, to Edwin and Mary (Weber) Merz. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Roland loved raising animals, especially chickens, ducks, and rabbits. He also enjoyed feeding catfish and deer on his daily rides on the John Deere Gator. The last two months Roland resided at Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans home in Floresville where he had the opportunity to spend time with fellow veterans. He grew especially fond of the nurses and physical therapy personnel at the Veterans Home. He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Betty Lee Merz; his second wife, Hope Merz, his parents and his brother, Johnny Merz. Survivors include his 5 children, Wanda Kollaus and husband Otto, Roland Merz Jr. and wife Anita, Ronald Merz and wife Carole, Kenny Merz and wife Dianna, and Melanie Bradshaw and husband Wayland; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy Kollaus and wife Becky, Misty Juarez and husband Raymond, Kristy Kollaus, Deric Merz and wife Amy, Kyle Merz, Shawnna Blaney, Brandon Merz and wife Lacy, Erin Hand and husband Jason, Shannon Merz, Jacob Bradshaw, and Kaitlyn Bradshaw; 9 great grandchildren, Molly and Evie Kollaus, Jayden and Miles Juarez, Isla Merz, Carley and Marley Blaney, and Easton and Chesney Hand; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeremy, Raymond, Deric, Kyle, Brandon, Jacob, and family friend, Mark Howard.
