Obituary

Ronald Warren Ridge, DDS, age 90, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Ronald, moved to Seguin, Texas from Longwood, Florida in 1997 to be with his family. He was born in Los Angeles, California on October 25, 1927 to Benjamin F. and Kathryn (Packard) Ridge. Ron and his brother Bruce lived several years in the California sunshine. Due to his father's management career, the family moved so many times that Ron attended three high schools and four colleges. He recalled, however, that he was happiest when they lived in Phoenix, Arizona. Once on his own, he settled in Kansas City, Missouri where he met the love of his life, Gloria Joy Jenkins. While newlyweds, both Ron and Gloria Joy worked several jobs; Gloria put him through dental school at the University of Missouri Kansas City. He was recognized with many scholastic honors and elected president of his junior class. Upon graduation from dental school, Ron, Gloria and their young daughter moved to Florida where he became the first dentist in Maitland. For nearly 40 years, he cared for multiple generations of Central Florida families. Gloria Joy remained by his side until her passing in 1985. Years later, Ron sold his practice and retired to Seguin. Not being one to remain idle, Ron joined the team at The Bottle Haus where he met Ruby Lindeman. Eventually, the two fell in love and became devoted companions. Ron supported both his profession and the community. He remained active in the American Dental Association and Florida Dental Association. In 1988, after many courses of advanced studies, he received his Fellow in General Dentistry from the Academy of General Dentistry. Ron was a lifelong member of Rotary International, serving as a past president of Maitland Rotary Club. He also served on several civic and charitable boards in the Central Florida region. He was a jurist for art shows and later, he himself, enjoyed painting. Ron was a vestryman of the Anglican Church and was a devoted layreader who trained others and helped standardize the layreader protocol. He very much enjoyed his adult Sunday school group at the First United Methodist Church of Seguin. Ron loved traveling, but when home, he valued the detailed aspects of his pastimes. He enjoyed model railroading, delighting his family at Christmastime with his elaborate N-Line winter holiday scenes. Ron also applied his skills as a dentist to fashion fine jewelry from gold and silver; hand casting and forming beautiful rings and pendants for family and friends. And above all, Ron loved to cook. Friends and family enjoyed the fruits of his labor. Ron is survived by daughters, Syndra Schulze (Cecil) and Tamara Marable; grandchildren, Christina Burress (Jason), Sterling Schulze (Libby), and Patrick Schulze; great grandchildren, Luke, Morgan, Ada, Emerson and Cecelia; and sweetheart and companion, Ruby Lindeman. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Seguin with The Reverend Benjamin Holland and The Reverend Canon Robert J. Cheeseman as celebrants. A reception will follow in the Life Enrichment Center. Private interment will be held at a later date in the Highland Memorial Gardens in Apopka, Florida. Memorials may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 98018, Washington DC 20090-8018 (www.lls.org) or to the charity of your choice.
