Obituary

Rudolph H. "Bubba" Bauer, Jr., age 81 of Seguin, died on September 7, 2012. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 10, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church followed by the mass of Christian burial at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Msgr. Dennis Darilek officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date at San Geronimo Cemetery. Bubba was born on February 6, 1931, in Seguin to Rudolph H. and Jessie Hopper Bauer. He graduated from St. Joseph School in 1945, from Seguin High School in 1949 and from Texas A & I in 1953. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from July, 1953, until June, 1955. He returned to Seguin and bought a small farm. He worked in the oil fields and raised cattle. In 1966 he began a 30-year career at SMI, retiring in 1996. Bubba was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Eleanor Bauer Michelson, and brother-in-law Fred Schmidt. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bettie Jo Smith Bauer. Also surviving are three children and eight grandchildren. John and wife Beth live in LaCoste with their daughters Kaitlyn and Bailey. Son Bill and wife Diana live in Austin with children Sebastian, Elias, and Clara. Daughter Nancy and husband, John Gueldner, live in Seguin with Pete, Otto and Lucas. Bubba is also survived by his sister, Betsy Schmidt, of Austin; brother-in-law Paul Smith, of Seguin, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family offers special thanks to the nurses at GRMC Hospice and Chaplain Rhonda Robbins; also to Dr. Flores, Dr. Ryan, Dr. Daggubati and Dr. Sokolyk; Father Dennis, Father Greg, Father Paul Cleary and Steven Scheel; and to the staff of Nesbit LRC for their loving care.
