Obituary

Russell "Opie" Wayne Gold, age 61 of Seguin, entered into eternal life on November 26, 2014 at 6 p.m. the same time his beloved family would gather each year for their Thanksgiving meal. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Cross Church with Rev. Jim Price, Rev. Tom Jones and Rev. Jeremy Roy officiating. Interment will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Russell was born to Marvin Edgar Gold and Louise Marie Dreibrodt Gold on October 11, 1953 in Seguin. Russell was a 1972 graduate of Seguin High School and a 1976 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. His role as a registered Pharmacist of 38 years allowed him to care for his community at William's Drug Store, Cedarview Pharmacy and Guadalupe Regional Medical Center. Russell was a devoted life-long member of Cross Church in Seguin and enjoyed hunting and spending time at the family ranch. Most important to Russell was his loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law, Ilene A. Burroughs and numerous other loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen Burroughs Gold; children, Dustin Gold and wife Amanda, Ryan Gold and wife Heather, and Rachel Gold Moffett and husband Joseph; seven energetic grandchildren, Reyna and Ryder Gold, Hayden, Paisley and Easton Gold, and Lane and McKinlee Moffett; sister, Sherry Gold Nefford-Esse and husband Howard; aunts, Marciel Soechting, Ruby Gerken, and Juanita Dreibrodt; father-in-law, Francis M. Burroughs; sisters-in-law, Tammy Carter and Jody Ward; brother-in-law, Mark Burroughs and wife Debbie; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Travis Nefford, Tracey Nefford, Bobby Gammon, Richard Merz, Jeff Schlichting and Fred Nefford. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Burroughs, Francis Burroughs, Howard Esse, William Maierhofer, Allan Dreibrodt, Tommy Gerken and Robert Etlinger. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church Russell loved and served so faithfully, Cross Church, 814 N. Bauer, Seguin, Texas, 78155.
