Ruth Govett Keller, age 82 of Schertz, passed away on May 14, 2018. Graveside services and interment will be held in the Appling Cemetery near Kingsbury on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Ruth was born on August 30, 1935 in Guadalupe County, Texas to George Alfred and Claudia Lois (Appling) Govett. Ruth was the past president of the Schertz Humane Society and was one of the founders of Schertz Animal Control Facility in 1993. She was a lifetime member of the Gra-Trail Trailriders Association. Her passions were sewing, painting, horseback riding, flower arranging and spending time among family and friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Denise Maddox, her parents, her infant brother, Roger Douglas Govett and her former husbands, Warren Keller, Clifford Brown and Leland Maddox. Survivors include her loving daughter, Delane Maddox Mayfield and husband John Wayne; grandson, Daylon Mayfield; granddaughter, Chancy Mayfield; numerous cousins, other loving family members and many friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Argent Court in Seguin, her home of 2 ½ years, Hope Hospice and Visiting Angels of New Braunfels, Texas, as all three were devoted to her and gave special care and helped with her needs. Special thanks also to Carol Ott of Cibolo for her daily care the last two weeks. Ruth, although eccentric, will be remembered as a caring and compassionate person especially to the downtrodden and needy, including both people and animals. She will be missed by all her family and friends.
