Ruth Fennell Scott, age 83, of Seguin, passed away on April 16, 2016. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Visitation will begin again on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 9 a.m. at Second Baptist Church followed by funeral services beginning at 10 a.m. with Pastor Jimmie Flakes officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Ruth was born on October 20, 1932 in Seguin, Texas to Thomas J. and Marion (Woods) Fennell. She was a 1949 graduate of Ball High School. She will be remembered as one of the founding members of the Lincoln Ball Alumni Association. Ruth was the 1949 Queen of the Juneteenth Parade in Seguin. Ruth was the first black employee/cashier at HEB Seguin. She was a trained dental hygienist assistant in California and Washington. Ruth was active in local political organizations and formerly served on the Board at Riverside Cemetery in Seguin. She was a member of the Justine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as the Grand Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the McQueeney Ladies Auxiliary Post 9213. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, George Scott, her parents and her sisters, Sarah Walker and Betty Jefferson. Survivors include her son, Tim Scott; grandson, Xavier Scott; sisters, Marion Henderson and Evelyn Fennell; brothers, Clifford Fennell and Frank Fennell and wife Bettye; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and many friends.
