Ruth Ann Walling, age 81, passed away on December 3, 2015. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Cross Church in Seguin with Rev. Jim Price officiating. Ruth was born on October 30, 1934 in Glendale, California to James Bernard and Katherine Alice (Fansher) Harris. After graduating from Alhambra High School in Alhambra, CA, she attended Pasadena City College. In 1953 Ruth entered the United States Navy and proudly served until 1958 as both a yeoman and Chaplain's assistant. In 1954 while stationed in Great Lakes, IL, she met and married the love of her life, Lionel Walling, an Engineer's Mate. The next 60 years saw their family grow with the birth of their daughter, Sherry, and several military moves, mainly in California. Ruth always made sure both Lionel and Sherry had a comfortable home, so much so that many other friends and children considered her their mom as well! Ruth was an active member of the Seaside Eastern Star Chapter, Hunting Beach, CA; American Legion Post 179, New Braunfels, TX; Waves National, San Antonio, TX; Wives of Submarine Veterans WWII, Texas Chapter. She also served as leader for the Girl Scouts troops in Huntington Beach, CA, as well as Neighborhood Chairman of the 1000 girls and adult Girl Scouts, Huntington Beach. Ruth accepted Christ as her Savior as a teenager. As an adult, she served in various positions in missions and teaching Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in York, NE. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; brother James Bernard Harris, Jr.; sister Shirley Jean Moses. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Lionel, and daughter Sherry Walling; nephews Howard Moses and Scott Harris; great-niece and nephew Carla, Johnny Moses, Kaelyn and Aiden Harris ; adopted granddaughter Irene Moline; 6 furbabies; and numerous other adopted family members who considered her mom and grandma, namely from room 220 at Seguin High School.
