Sally Jo Putt Nichols was born on December 5, 1938 in Elkhart Indiana and died on February 17th, 2012, in Marion, Texas. A memorial service celebrating Sally's life will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel. Sally was preceded in death by her father, Dick Putt and mother, Frances Joy Putt. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Burton K. Nichols of Marion, Texas, brother Richard Putt of Indianapolis, Indiana, nieces and nephews: Stephanie Calvert, Richard Putt Jr., Michael Nolf, Mary Marshall, Michelle McNally, Marc Nichols, Melissa Zimmer, Shandra White, Terri Angot, Brian Nichols, Erica Gillette, Jessica Lamborn, Burton Nichols, Tawnya Savoy, Alona Stefek, Kyle VanGaasbeek, Eric VanGaasbeek and Amy Adams, and their children. Sally graduated from Elkhart High School in 1956 then graduated from the Indiana University in 1961. On December 28, 1963, Sally married Burton Nichols. They made their home in Cedar City, Utah, where Sally and Burton pioneered the building and operation of Brian Head Ski Resort until 1989 when they relocated to Marion, Texas. In Marion, Sally and Burt established Water Garden Gems where Sally's knowledge of water plants, combined with her business background, has made the company a huge success. Sally was beloved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
