Obituary

SFC Ronald Joe Flint, USA (Ret.), age 82 of Seguin, Texas passed away peacefully on February 10, 2017. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Friday March 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Bryan Thomas will officiate.

Ronald was born on September 22, 1934 in San Antonio, Texas to Joseph Lida and Gladys Mae (Townsend) Flint. Spending his early years in San Antonio, he was a graduate of the Corpus Christi Miller High School class of 1953. Ron served his country in the US Army, with a tour of duty in Vietnam with 101st Airborne Division 1969-70. After distinguishing himself in the military, he retired to Seguin in 1977. Returning to school, he received a bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas State and was employed at Kleinguenther Firearms and Stewart & Stevenson until truly retiring from the workforce in 1999.

Ron was a lifetime member of the NRA, an avid model train enthusiast, a voracious reader, and lover of the spoken word. He truly enjoyed spending time drinking coffee and telling tales with friends at the Donut Palace.

Ron is survived by 5 kids that were the beneficiaries of his enthusiasm to explore, learn, and accomplish. Through him, they saw the world from the majestic peaks of the Swiss Alps to the hot and steamy jungles of Thailand, from the beauty of the northern California coast to the kudzu of lower Alabama. Their experiences include a terror filled night of tornadoes in Kansas, a truly ground-moving earthquake in Seattle, and driving in English fog so thick it could have been cut with a knife. Through it all they were able to experience how different, and how much the same, people all over the world really are; regardless of language, culture, or ethnicity. What a gift.

Ron was surrounded by those 5 kids during his final days. Surviving Ron are sons Steve (Janet) and Jeff (Linda); daughters Dellene (Frank – miss him), Allison (Andy), and Rachel (Clyde). Grandchildren Sean, Megan, Mikala, January, Charles, Danielle, Travis, Kyle, Lyndsey, Dalton, and Abby. Great grandchildren Kristen, Grant, Ashlee, Britlee, Scott, Jacob, Carlie, Nathan, Brandon, Rosie and Roary. And two great-great grandchildren Noah and Eden. Memorial contributions may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home for Children, 3573 S Waverly Rd, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827.
