Sharon Lee Schmidt Koebig was born on September 7, 1951 in Seguin, Texas to Hilton "Bill" Schmidt and Mary Lee Bartels Schmidt. She attended schools here in Seguin and was a 1969 graduate of Seguin High School. After studying for a year at Sam Houston State University, she spent a year in Colorado. Then she moved back to Texas to work at Getty Oil Company in Houston before returning to Seguin where she took a position at Structural Metals, Inc.
Sharon married Alfred Koebig in 1986. The marriage produced two wonderful children, Hilton and Trevor, whom Sharon adored. Sharon left SMI to care for her boys and her home, which was probably her favorite job! She shared with them her love of traveling, and the family visited many different places. They also learned to love the outdoors as Sharon did. As a girl, she swam in the Guadalupe River, and later as an adult, she loved fishing, bird watching, and growing beautiful plants on her patio and in her yard.
Fun-loving and vivacious, Sharon was blessed with many friends. Her smile could light up the room. She enjoyed dancing, going to Las Vegas, and listening to good music. Her heart was also big enough to share with her animal friends. She especially loved dogs and always had at least one, and often more than one. It was not unusual for her to find a wounded animal and take it to the vet for treatment.
On Sunday, September 10, 2017, Sharon entered into eternal peace. She is preceded in death by her father, Hilton "Bill" Schmidt, and her mother, Mary Lee Bartels Schmidt. She is survived by her sons, Hilton Koebig and Trevor Koebig, their father, Alfred Koebig; her brothers, Ron Schmidt and wife, Janie, and Harry Schmidt. She also leaves many loving relatives and friends, including Minnie, Sweet Thing and granddog Milo.
Memorials may be sent to the Guadalupe County Humane Society or the Seguin Animal Rescue Foundation.
A memorial service celebrating Sharon's life will be held at Tres Hewell Mortuary on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 1 PM.
