Sharron Elaine Matthys Vogel, age 75 of Seguin, passed away on January 30, 2017 to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Sharron was born in Wharton, TX on January 22, 1942 to Walter and Marie (Boerger) Matthys. Shortly thereafter she moved to Schulenburg, TX where she attended school and graduated in 1960. She then moved to Seguin and attended Texas Lutheran College and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1964. During her time at TLC, she met and later married Virgil Vogel on June 21, 1964. After getting married, they moved to Wichita, Kansas where Virgil was stationed in the Air Force. Sharron taught in the Haysville School District for two years prior to moving to San Antonio where she received her Master's Degree in Education from UTSA and then taught school at Kirby Elementary. It was there that their first two children Michelle and Russell were born. In 1979 they moved back to Seguin where they built their current home and their third child Kimberly was born. She taught in Seguin until she retired in 2002. She was involved in her church at Grace Lutheran and enjoyed volunteer work at The Big Red Barn next door, the Seguin Public Library, and thrift store in San Antonio. Sharron had fun with her book club and domino club and relaxed by sewing, knitting, and reading. She will remain in the heart of her husband of 52 years Virgil and her children Michelle Tockhorn and her husband Jeff, Russell Vogel and his wife Gretchen, and Kimberly Coonfield and her husband Tim. She will not be forgotten by her six grandchildren Daniel, Lauren, Lance, Mason, Autumn and Tyler. Sharron is also survived by three older siblings Ruby Johnson, Thelma Koehler, Leroy Matthys and his wife Barbara as well as her brother-in-law Jimmy Vogel and his wife Teenie and her sister-in-law Judy Poole. She will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, George Matthys and her sisters, Marguerite Donsbach and Florence Haugen. Visitation will be at Tres Hewell Mortuary Thursday February 2, 2017 from 5-7 PM. Funeral services will be on Friday February 3, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Seguin with Rev. Richard Mittelstadt officiating. Interment will follow at Lone Oak Cemetery in Geronimo. Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews.
