Obituary

Shirley Ann (Johnson) Lance, age 71 of Seguin, formerly of McAllen, passed away on February 11, 2011. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. with her brother, Rev. Delmar Ray Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Shirley was born on December 30, 1939 in Brady Texas to Omer Dell and Iva Myrtle Amarine Johnson. She was raised in Edinburg and graduated from Edinburg High School and attended the University of Texas Pan Am. She will be remembered as a real estate broker and also having been involved in numerous farming interests. She accumulated many awards as President of the Mission Board of Realtors, Honorary Chapter Farmer in FFA, Vice-President of the Hidalgo County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. Her passion was training and developing 4-H Club Volunteer Leaders. As a 4-H leader over 28 years she helped found the Sharyland 4-H Club and Hidalgo County Youth Show. She served as Superintendant of a division of the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show for over 28 years. Her goal was to train and give credit to each volunteer leader. She received many awards statewide from Farm Bureau, Agricultural Extension Service and real estate organizations. She moved to Seguin, Texas in August 2006 for her final home. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin Francis Gallia, her parents and a brother, James Dudley Johnson. Survivors include her loving husband of 43 years, Dempsey Walker Lance; her children, Karon Gallia Smith (Robert), Kenneth Gallia (Carol), Karrie Dell Gallia, Linda Lance Goslin(Leslie), Thomas Lance(Jerri) and Jo Ann Lance Stevenson(Stan); brother, Rev. Delmar Ray Johnson; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many loving friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Gallia, James Gallia, David Frank Smith, William Koepke, Donald Haynes and Mark Jacob. Honorary pallbearers will be Leslie Goslin, Stan Stevenson and Stephen Lance. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hidalgo County 4-H Foundation, 410 N. 13th Ave., Edinburg, Texas, 78541or charity of one's choice.
