Sophie Luensmann Strey, age 79 of Seguin, passed away on June 4, 2008. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008 from 3 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Emanuel's Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul J. Zwarich officiating. Interment will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery. Sophie was born on October 26, 1928 in Marion, Texas to Hugo and Ella Bielke Luensmann. She married Erwin Strey on September 9, 1952. Sophie devoted herself to being a good wife, mother and friend. Sophie enjoyed life and with her husband Erwin instilled in their daughters a keen sense of honesty, integrity and love of family. She loved gardening, baking and sewing but her greatest joy came from being "Me-Maw" to her grandchildren. She was a regular attendee at their sports events or any other activity that gave her cause to cheer them on. Sophie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sister Ella "Tootie" Luensmann. She is survived by three daughters, Gladys Willard and husband Michael, Donna Castillo and husband Rene, and Joyce Even and husband Mark. Also sharing the loss of their beloved grandmother are Rachel and Ross Willard, Amber and Kelly Zipp, Derek and Jason Even, and Ashley and Jason Castillo. She is also survived by sister Annie Coldewey and husband Robert, and brothers Walter Luensmann and wife Dorothy, Arthur Luensmann and wife Juanita , Reno Luensmann, Hugo Luensmann and wife Jan, Elton Luensmann and wife Dorothy and Alvin Luensmann and wife Sandy, as well as sisters in law, Esther Long and husband Ray, Velma Milam, Nita Ricks and husband Lou and Evelyn Grein; aunts, Laura Bodemann and Wilma Achterberg; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
