Stanley Wayne McKenzie, age 89, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2017. A memorial service celebrating Stan's life will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Seguin with Chaplain Danny Johnson, Rev. Cathe Evins and Rev. Ron Welborn officiating. A reception will follow in Hierholzer Hall. Private interment will be held at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Stan was born April 2, 1928 in Miami, Roberts County, Texas to Birdella (Wilkes) and J.K. McKenzie. He attended the University of Texas at Austin from which he graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree. Stan then came to Seguin in June 1950 and joined the staff at KWED, working under Garfield Kiel. It was here that he found his passion of being a voice on the radio for local news and sports, eventually becoming President of Seguin Broadcasting. He was a color announcer for Southwest Conference football, working alongside Connie Alexander until his retirement after 35 years. He served as the Chairman of the Texas Association of Broadcasters in 1974, the National Association of Broadcasters, President of the Texas Education Broadcast Association, President of Seguin Chamber of Commerce, and numerous other committees. He also earned the Pioneer Broadcaster of the Year award in 1974. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dr. Charles Eldon McKenzie, and Kenneth McKenzie; sister, Dorothy Day. Stan is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Emma Jean; children, Kaye Kaplan and fiancée, Michael Geary of New Braunfels, Donna McKenzie of Seguin, John McKenzie and wife, Heather of San Antonio; grandchildren, Chase McKenzie, Matthew McKenzie, Jensyn Kaplan Gurtz, and Bailey Kaplan Avery; nephews Marshall Day of Tucson, AZ, Charles McKenzie of Corpus Christi, Randy Rabe of Port Lavaca; niece, Sabre Hunt of Corpus Christi; sister-in-law, Earline Rabe of Port Lavaca, and a host of loyal lifetime friends. The family extends their appreciation to the nurses and staff at Legend Oaks in New Braunfels and the nurses and staff of Alamo Hospice.
