Sylvia was born on July 11, 1919 to Peter Moltz and Annie Uhr Moltz at their home in the Leissner community in Guadalupe County. She grew up on the farm, attended Leissner School then went on to graduate from Seguin High School in 1937. Sylvia married George Engler on August 16, 1938 and settled on a farm in the Zorn area. The first few years were very hard. Sylvia and George decided to raise dairy cattle which led them to begin the Engler Grade A Dairy business that was in operation for thirty plus years. As hard and demanding as the work was, it was also very rewarding. Sylvia found much enjoyment visiting with customers as she dipped fresh milk from the stainless steel tank into their gallon jars. People came from surrounding communities for fresh raw milk, cream and conversation. Although the farm and cattle consumed a lot of attention, Sylva made time to be involved in many community activities especially those that involved her children. She taught Sunday school and vacation Bible School at Friedens U.C.C. where she was also very active in the Women's Guild. Sylvia was an adult 4-H Leader and member of the York Creek Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. After selling the cattle, Sylvia and George found more time to enjoy traveling, playing with the grandchildren and domino games with friends. Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband George Engler, her son Kenneth Engler, her parents, her brother Elmer Moltz and his wife Mildred, sisters, Romie Heinemeyer and her husband George, Mellin Moltz and Ilene Moltz, and brother-in-law, Russell Thomas.
