Thomas Hunt Terry, Jr., age 90 of Seguin, passed away on January 23, 2013. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Welborn and Rev. Jeremy Roy officiating. A reception will follow in the Christian Life Center at First United Methodist Church. Private interment will be held in San Geronimo Cemetery. T.H. was born Aug. 24, 1922, in Houston, TX, to Thomas Hunt Terry, Sr. and Frances Crockard Terry. He moved to Seguin as a child and, after a brief career as a 120-lb. punt returner for the football team, graduated from SHS in 1940. Following service in WWII, T.H. graduated from The University of Texas and followed his father's footsteps into the oil business, as a lease broker. In 1950 he married Mildred Traeger, his loving wife of 46 years. He later joined the family grocery business, CW Traeger Wholesale. A man of many sayings, T.H. was known to have 'the cat by the tail' and 'a loaf of bread under each arm'. He could be spotted driving his 'daily rounds', having coffee at Dairy Queen, rescuing roadside refuse, courting at Lake Breeze, checking in at local restaurants, or occupying the back row of FUMC-Seguin. An avid golfer and gardener, he loved the fresh air of Guadalupe County. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brother Sam C. Terry, sister Madele Hares and son-in-law Paul Gingrich. Survived by his four children, Hunt Terry and wife Ann, Molly Kelley, Tim Terry and wife Mary, and Meg McGrew and husband Mike; grandchildren ('his thorns') Thomas Terry and wife Brooke, Ross Terry, Jack Gingrich, David Gingrich and wife Amy, Brian Gingrich, and ('his rose') Merideth Waltman and husband Andy; step-grandchildren Chris, Aaron, Austin and Abby McGrew; great-grandchildren Logan and Cameron Terry and Emma Gingrich; sister, Lanetta Culberson and husband Jack; special companion Elizabeth Ryan; and beloved nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff at Argent Court, Guadalupe Regional Hospice, and his caretakers for their compassionate devotion.
