Toney Warren Hammock was born October 16, 1922 in Martin's Mill, Texas to James Hammock and Mary Searcy Hammock and passed away at his home in Seguin, surrounded by his loving family, on April 13, 2015 at the age of 92. He was the youngest of five children with three sisters and one brother. He grew up in East Texas and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps on April 7, 1941. While in the CCC he served as a cook in Humble, Texas and for a short time in King City, California. He enlisted in the Navy on October 28, 1942 and was based in Brooklyn, New York. He served on the transport ship William H. Welch. During the Normandy Invasion, the Welch made thirteen crossings transporting troops from England to France. After D-Day, he was transferred to the USS Matsonia and deployed to the South Pacific until the end of World War II. He was discharged from the Navy on October 30, 1945. During his service he married the love of his life, Doris Mae Henderson, on December 4, 1943 in Houston, Texas. After his discharge from the Navy, Toney and Doris resided in the Houston area where he worked as a butcher. In 1953, Toney and Doris moved their family to Seguin where he was employed as the Market Manager for Wuest's Supermarkets. Eventually, he became the meat buyer and market supervisor for all Wuest's stores and Pic & Pac locations. He retired from Wuest's in 1990. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Seguin since 1954. He served as a deacon and elder. He joined the Elks club and later the Noon Lions Club. When he joined the Sunrise Lions Club, he served as Lion Tamer and was in charge of the Lion's Club annual Christmas tree sales for five years. Toney is preceded in death by his son James Warren Hammock. Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Doris Hammock; children, Joyce Hammock Estes (Waynne Estes) of Georgetown, Texas, Alan Lee Hammock (Dawn) of Palmyra, Virginia, Rosemary Hammock Webster (Hal) of Seguin, and William Douglas Hammock (Bonnie) of Seguin; sisters-in-law, Pat Sherrouse (Cliff) and Daisy Carey (Don); 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Diercksen officiating. Interment will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Hal Webster, Shelby Patek, Wayne Estes, Troy Vinyard, Roy Webster, and Davin Alexander. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P. O.
