Verna Lee Gerth Beutnagel, age 79 of New Berlin, passed away on September 8, 2016. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Cross Church with Rev. Jim Price officiating. Interment will follow in the Boecker Cemetery. A reception will follow in the New Berlin Community Center. Verna Lee was born on October 7, 1936 in Schertz Texas to Alfred and Helga (Kriewald) Gerth. She attended the Lower Valley School and then graduated from Schertz Cibolo High School. She was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church in Cibolo Texas. On September 20, 1959 in that same church she married Delvin Ernst Beutnagel. In 1961 she became a member of Cross Church in Seguin, where she and Delvin are still members. She worked at First National Bank in San Antonio and later at Schertz Bank & Trust in Schertz, but mostly enjoyed being a homemaker to her family. She was a 66 year member of the Order of the Sons of Hermann and was a current member of the Seguin Lodge #37. In 1987 she was recognized with the Seguin Hermann Sons Humanitarian Deed and Outstanding Service. She was a charter member of Hocheim Prairie Marion Branch #37 in 1960 and a GVEC member information Committee from 1982 to 1983. Verna Lee was an associate member of the New Berlin Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the New Berlin Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary where she served as historian in 2006. She helped start the Couples Country Folks Bunco Club in 1995. Verna Lee is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Nelda Timmermann and husband Rubie, and her sister-in-law, Erline Voigt. Survivors include her loving husband of nearly 57 years, Delvin Ernst Beutnagel; daughter, Valerie Lea Beutnagel Hartmann and husband Darvin; son, Brian Delvin Beutnagel and wife Tammy; grandchildren, Shayne Douglas Salge, Lindsey Danae Beutnagel, Chelsey Lea Hartmann, Tommy Devin Beutnagel, and Stacey Mae Hartmann; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and many friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Jackie Nolte, James Radtke, Wayne Zwicke, Rodney Gerth, Mark Francis, and Tommy Beutnagel. Honorary pallbearers will be Shayne Salge, Lindsey Beutnagel, Chelsey Hartmann, and Stacey Hartmann.
