Vernon Albert Zunker, age 83 of Seguin, passed away on October 17, 2012. A memorial service celebrating Vernon's life will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Lee Zillmann and Rev. Brett Becker officiating. A reception will follow. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the Redeemer United Church Cemetery in Zuehl. Vernon was born on January 11, 1929 in Bexar County, Texas to Albert Herman and Lonie Ida Haecker Zunker. He was a lifetime member of the Redeemer United Church in Zuehl where he faithfully served in various leadership roles. He was a graduate of Marion High School Class of 1947. Vernon was self employed in the paint business for over 60 years and was also a farmer. He enjoyed his memberships in both the Germania Bowling Club and the Sportsman Club. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy Ford Zunker; children, Brenda Zunker Boyko and husband, Nick, Lois Zunker McDougall and husband, Ronnie, and Darryl Zunker and wife Lana; grandchildren, Terri Boyko and Kelsey Boyko,Diane Little, Kaci Gibbons and husband Ben, Kade Zunker and fiancé Amanda Grace, and Kendyl Zunker; great-grandchildren, Jakob, Blaine and Harper Gibbons; sister, Imogene Mergele and husband Ernest; brother, Nolan Zunker and wife Betty; sister-in-law, Jackie Stanford; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. TamTam and his staff, Guadalupe Regional Hospice and the staff of Guadalupe Valley Nursing Center for their loving care of Vernon.
