Victor Eugene "Gene" Mercer, age 86 of Seguin, passed away on October 14, 2014. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. at The Country Church in Marion with Pastor Butch Ikels and Pastor Neil Kibbe officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date. Gene was born on December 8, 1927 in Dewey County Oklahoma to Paul Earl and Gertrude Mae (Hickman) Mercer. Gene's accomplishments were known by his family and friends. They also knew that God, Family and Fishing were his passions. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Paul Mercer, Jr., his sisters, Anna Mae Turner, Joyce Justis, Alberta Westenhaver and his sons-in-law, Harold Beck and George Bolton. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Jenell Ozena Mercer; daughter, Kanema Bolton; sons, Mike Mercer and wife Rhonda, and Randy Mercer and wife Connie; brother, Frank Mercer and wife Montray; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Mercer, Elouise Schulz and Gladys Moorehead; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
