Virginia "Ginny" Nokes age 92, went to see the Lord on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. Ginny was born in Wichita Kansas on February 26, 1923 to John and Lola (Earl) Pilkington. She graduated and was the first Homecoming Queen of Walton-Gavin High School in Kansas. After high school, Ginny went to work at the Cessna Airplane Factory on the assembly line, wiring the airplane lights on the wings. She took courses in fashion clothing modeling in Wichita Kansas. For over 10 years she served as Vice President of George E. Harris and Company in Wichita Kansas, which led to recognition in Forbes Magazine for innovative OEM sales representation.
Ginny has always loved her horses, from childhood through adulthood. She enjoyed training horses and teaching children and adults to ride professionally until two years ago. Ginny and many of her students won awards performing on their horses. She was a lifetime member of Region 9 Arabian Horse Association, and was an editor of Alamo Horse Association publications of San Antonio, TX for many years, and wrote columns for the Horse Gazette. She was a founding member of the Alamo Arabian Horse Association and served as a Board Member in 1975 when the club was formed. In recognition of her many years of service in many areas, a few of which included being editor of the club newsletter and managing the Class A horse show, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Ginny was preceded in death 18 years ago by her beloved husband Roland William Nokes, and her son John Harris. She is survived by her daughter Georgia Harris Alexander of Wichita, KS; step-children Deborah Nokes Dulaney and husband Alan of Mesa, AZ, Gregory Nokes of Seguin, TX; brother, John Pilkington, of Sun City West, AZ.
Ginny will be missed by her grandchildren Barbara Smith-Lewis and Brian Smith of Wichita, KS, Kelly Dulaney of CO, and Austin Dulaney of Flagstaff, AZ; niece Cindy Pilkington of HI; faithful companion Valentine and her many many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin with Chaplain Jim Merket officiating. Private Interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. An additional celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.
