Walter A. Luensmann, age 83 of St. Hedwig, passed away on August 27, 2014. Visitation will be held at Tres Hewell Mortuary on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 2 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer United Church at Zuehl with Rev. Lee Zillmann officiating. Interment will follow in the Redeemer United Church Cemetery. Walter was born on September 16, 1930 in Bexar County Texas near Marion to Hugo Edgar, Sr., and Ella (Bielke) Luensmann. He was a lifetime member of Redeemer United Church. He worked for Dekalb Seed Company for 28 years and then for Alamo Ironworks until he retired at 62. He loved farming, gardening, wine-making, deer hunting, fishing and bowling. Walter was a life member of the Bexar Bowling Society and Germania Bowling Club. He served as a former director of the St. Hedwig Fire Department. He was also a member of the Zuehl Hermann Sons Lodge # 163. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ella I. Luensmann and Sophie Strey and his brother, Hugo Luensmann, Jr. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy Mae Luensmann; children, Mark A. Luensmann and wife Terri, Carol Plate and husband Danny, Sandra Ferguson and husband Rusty, and Brian Luensmann and wife Kandi; grandchildren, Claire Luensmann Hilscher and husband Henry, Danielle Plate, Lucas Plate, Harrison Ferguson, Madeline Ferguson, Braden Luensmann and Hailey Luensmann; brothers, Arthur Luensmann and wife Juanita, Reno Luensmann, Elton Luensmann and wife Dorothy, Alvin Luensmann and wife Sandra; sister, Annie Coldewey and husband Robert; sister-in-law, Jan Luensmann; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Luensmann, James Luensmann, Johnny Luensmann, Gary Luensmann, Allen Coldewey, T. J. Garcia, Harrison Ferguson and Lucas Plate. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Harborth, Edgar Steffen, Elmon Wiedner, Otto Luensmann, Leo Padalecki, and Stephen Plate.
