Obituary

Donna "Mammie" Mireles - Halmess, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, friend as well as a teacher of 32 years has recently passed on October 13, 2020 at the age of 72.  She was born on August 29 th , 1948 in Carrollton, Kentucky to Herman Joseph Halmess and Mary Frances (Frankie) Foree Halmess.  Donna and her family lived in several locations in Kentucky, Indiana, and Arizona before settling in Texas in 1963.  For the past 45 years she lived in the San Antonio, Cibolo, and the Schertz area.

A graveside service celebrating Donna's life will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020 at 3.14 (3:14 P.M.) at Redeemer United Church Cemetery at Zuehl with Andy Peal officiating. All CDC protocols must be followed including social distancing and face coverings must be worn at all times.  Casual attire would be appropriate.  Donna would have wanted everyone to be comfortable.

Donna attended Dell City High School from 1963 – 1965 where she was a star student, athlete, and cheerleader.  She then graduated high school the following year in Wallis, Texas.  Her college education began at Wharton Junior College where she earned an Associate in Arts degree in 1968.  She then graduated from Texas A & I University in Kingsville with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and earned her teaching degree in 1970.  She taught upper level Math and Science courses to countless students over the years.  She has been credited for the reason why hundreds of students were able to not only graduate high school, but because of her preparation college as well.  She was known to be incredibly strict - she didn't mess around.  If you were in her classes … you were GOING to learn.  Her students loved her and many, many have kept in contact with her up until her passing.  Her last two high schools where she taught were Edgewood ISD from 1971-1979 and Schertz – Cibolo ISD from 1979 until her retirement in 2003.

Donna had four children. Her oldest child is Edward Joseph (Eddie) Jonas, followed by her second son Kevin Andrew Jonas.  On May 1 st , 1976 she married Albert Richard Mireles and during their marriage they had two more children:  Jennifer Diane Mireles (Jenny) and Albert Richard Mireles, Jr (Richard).

Donna was preceded in death by her Mother (Frankie), Father (Joe), youngest son Richard as well as her beloved dog, Minni Mouse.  The ashes of Richard and Minni Mouse will be placed in the casket and buried with Donna.  She is survived by her loving family: Albert, children Eddie, Kevin and Jenny (Edgar), her grandchildren Leira, Kristopher (Kris), Justin, Serena, Brinden, Kaiden and Ray Ray. Additionaly survivors are sisters Deanna Williams (Dan), Jody Peal (Nolan) and brother Chuck Halmess (Judy). Other close family members are Andy Peal (Jill and Brady).

In addition to family she is survived by special loved ones; Channing, Jaime, Bryan, Christian and also Amy (Maddie) who have lovingly adopted her fur baby, Toby and countless students over decades of teaching.  Our hearts are breaking, but she is out of pain and in heaven with her beloved son Richard.
